31st May 2011

I was almost too ashamed to post this picture of all the dust that I swept up from our bathroom floor this afternoon, but I'm hoping that the shame I feel in sharing this will remind me to clean the floor slightly more often!

30th May 2011

Today we said goodbye to our futon. It has served us well over the last seven or eight years but there have been many complaints about its comfort levels and so we have bought a proper guest bed meaning that the futon has been usurped. We tried selling it but nobody seemed keen to pay us any money for it and so this morning I put it on Freecycle and less than 12 hours later it was gone. As an added bonus we also managed to send our old office chair to a new home at the same time!

29th May 2011

Today we met up with Mr W's family to celebrate his uncle's 60th birthday - we had a lovely lunch out before going home for tea and birthday cake! Many Happy Returns Greg!

28th May 2011

Time to leave Cornwall today but our holiday is not quite over yet as we're staying overnight with my parents in Dorset to break the journey. We arrived early afternoon and later on we were treated to some of Mum's homemade lemon cake - yum!

27th May 2011

After a very windy week it was exciting that today on our last evening the sun was shining and the wind had dropped enough to allow us to sit out on the decking outside our holiday cottage in order to eat our dinner. Okay, so we still needed to wear our fleeces but at least we were outside and the sun was shining!

26th May 2011

Another miserable day weather wise so we decided to do drive round and do some geocaching whilst I took Stephen on a trip down memory lane visiting places from my childhood in Cornwall. This stone circle near Duloe, that we stopped at for a cache, was one place though that I'd never been before.

25th May 2011

Today we spent the day in Plymouth with our good friend Alice and her two lovely children, the only downside was that her husband had to work and so we didn't get to see him too. We had a great day - fish and chips for lunch, followed by a trip on the Wheel of Plymouth and an ice cream.

24th May 2011

Having yesterday taken Mr W on an unintentional adventure when I accidentally took us on a longer than planned detour through some very narrow country lanes, today we had a planned adventure when we took the Bodinnick ferry to Fowey rather than driving the long way round by road. Much less stressful for Mr W than the narrow lanes!

23rd May 2011

The weather was a bit miserable today so we thought we'd go to the Eden Project as at least we could hide in the biomes if it started to rain too much. It's been about 8 years since we last went not too long after it had opened and it was interesting to see how much the plants in the outside 'biome' had grown up.

22nd May 2011

Having arrived late yesterday we didn't have time to explore our surroundings although the owner of our holiday cottage gave us detailed instructions as to how to get down to the local village. This morning we set off on the coast path to walk into nearby Polperro - a lovely walk and Mr W was very excited to spot Richard Madeley walking the other way (apparently he and Judy have a cottage nearby!).

21st May 2011

Today we drove down to Cornwall for the start of a week's holiday. We stopped to see some friends on the way down so we didn't get to our cottage until late afternoon, but rather nicely we were greeted with a cream tea to tuck in to.

Sunday 22 May 2011

20th May 2011

The sun was hotter yesterday than we thought and this morning my feet and ankles look like I'm wearing a pair of red socks - whoops!

19th May 2011

A sad start to today as it was Thomas' funeral but afterwards we headed to the coast to enjoy a picnic on the beach in the sunshine. I think Thomas would have enjoyed it too!

18th May 2011

Had a few things to do today in preparation for Thomas' funeral tomorrow, including buying a balloon to release afterwards. Here it is with Thomas' rabbit. Hopefully it will still be floating tomorrow and will go high up in the sky without getting stuck in any trees when we let go!

Wednesday 18 May 2011

17th May 2011

We've received lots of flowers from kind friends and family in the last couple of weeks but today I found an even more exciting parcel outside our front door - an edible gift in the form of a box of giant muffins! I was very restrained and managed to resist the temptation to tuck in until Mr W got home from work but don't expect they will last very long!

16th May 2011

Mr W went back to work today leaving me at home to occupy myself, so I decided to make some cookies. They don't quite look like the picture in the recipe book but they did taste good, if not quite how you would expect a cookie to taste!

Monday 16 May 2011

15th May 2011

Rather bizarrely when we went out for a walk this afternoon we found that someone had left a bag of carrots at the end of the alleyway next to our house.

14th May 2011

Following on from Mr W's decorating the other week we decided to treat ourselves to a new duvet cover to go with our freshly painted walls.

13th May 2011

Today I decided it was time to sort out my clothes and put the winter ones away and replace them with summer ones, unfortunately this is a task that requires making a mess before it gets better...

12th May 2011

When we were away at Easter we picked up a geocaching travel bug to move on and so this afternoon we decided to combine our daily fresh-air expedition with a quick bit of geocaching to drop it off. The cache was well hidden in the woods but we managed to find it without too much trouble!

11th May 2011

One of our very first purchases when we bought our first house was a futon for guests to sleep on but after much use it is getting quite uncomfortable and so we've splashed out on a new bed for our visitors. It was delivered this morning and there's a single option as shown but also a pull-out option to make it into a good-sized double. My parents will be pleased!

10th May 2011

We've received lots of flowers in the last few days but this rose plant 'Special Son' that arrived from some friends this morning seems very appropriate and should hopefully last a lot longer.

9th May 2011

Bit of a tough morning today but what better way to cheer ourselves up than with some tea and cake in the sunshine?

8th May 2011

The weather was nice this morning so we decided to take advantage of it and go for a bit of a walk in the countryside. Whilst out we found this stile which clearly belonged to another era since there was no associated fence and we were able to walk straight by without needing to climb anywhere!

Sunday 15 May 2011

7th May 2011

Life has been rather cruel to us lately but we have lots of kind friends and family - these were the first of four flower deliveries that arrived today.

Tuesday 10 May 2011

6th May 2011

We've had our vacuum cleaner for almost ten years now, but after sucking up lots of my hair during that time it is finally starting to lose suction and so this afternoon we went to look at the new Dyson hoover in the shop. Good job we did as it is mini (the adverts say it can fit on a piece of A4 paper) and the drum would probably be full in minutes in our house!

5th May 2011

Rather excitingly our new bench was delivered a week early this morning - good job my mum was visiting and able to receive it!

4th May 2011

The newspapers do frequently report ridiculous stories and this one this morning about a 'nose' attachment to enable you to use your smart phone in the bath was no exception! It did make me smile though!

3rd May 2011

Saw this rather nice picture whilst waiting in hospital today - it's basically honeysuckle flowers but there was some debate between Mr W and myself about some of the leaf combinations looking like bunny rabbits!

2nd May 2011

A while ago my parents gave us some garden vouchers, so today we finally went to garden centre to spend them - we ordered a bench but whilst we were there we also bought a mini table for our drinks when we make camp in the garden!

Saturday 7 May 2011

1st May 2011

I'm slightly worried that Mr W is becoming obsessed about the dandelions in our lawn - he spent ages the other weekend digging up dandelions and then he was at it again this afternoon. He threatened to do the same with the daisies but I managed to persuade him that may be futile!
